Artsnacker is a woman owned business, operated and owned by Donna Back and Deann Hopkins.
“I graduated from the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design with a degree in sign painting. I’ll show my age and say that vinyl lettering was just coming on the scene and all of my signs were hand painted back then. I’ve since learned to appreciate the flexibility and speed vinyl cutting and large format printing brings to the craft. But, in my opinion there is still nothing more magical than watching a journeyman signpainter hand letter a sign and nothing more beautiful than marks from the artists brush.
A little later I continued my education by getting a Fine Arts degree from the University of Kentucky with an emphasis in Japanese printmaking. I’ve been freelancing as a graphic artist, mural artist and sign maker for over 30 years. My other artistic interests include participating in mail art and art exchanges.(Contact me if you’re interested in exchanging). The name Artsnacker came from my early years participating in mail art. It dawned on me one day that I enjoyed working in numerous art mediums, sort of snacking on this type of art and that. I also exchanged carved rubber stamps for chocolate from fellow artists in places like Spain, England and Norway. So, the name stuck and I’ve been using it since the early 1990s.“
Deann joined the business in 2008. As demand grew it was important to add someone to the team who could help with the day to day business. Deann is responsible for sales, customer service, project management, bookkeeping as well as helping with sign creation.
We live on a small 56 acre farm in Cynthiana, KY where we raise Saanen (the white ones) goats in addition to our sign business. The studio is an old farmhouse on the property and we also have a 20×40 work shop where we assemble and create signs.
